In a Nutshell: The Worlds of Maurice Sendak

In a Nutshell: The Worlds of Maurice Sendak, a national traveling exhibition which explores the influence of the Old and New worlds in the work of renowned illustrator Maurice Sendak, opens at North Regional Library on May 14, 2011, and will remain at the library until June 24, 2011. In addition, North Regional Library will be hosting a series of events related to the exhibition.

Fins and Feathers: Original Children’s Book Illustrations from The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art

A new exhibit will be opening  Sunday, November 7 at the North Carolina Museum of Art called Fins and Feathers.  This exhibit will feature original illustrations from picture books from the late 1960s through present day, from distinguished illustrators such as Eric Carle, Leo Lionni, and Arnold Lobel.   The exhibit will run through January 30.  Along with the exhibit the Museum will be offering corresponding Art Hour programs  at Cameron Village Library (November 6, December 4, and January 15) and at East Regional Library (November 13, December 11, and January 8).

Fossil Fair

Do you love dinosaurs and fossils?  Would you like to find out more about them and the people who dig them up?  The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is having a free Fossil Fair on Saturday, November 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Meet paleontologists and see their fossils or bring in your own discoveries for identification.  If you would like to read more about fossils WCPL has some excellent books on fossils and the people who work with fossils.  You can order these titles and many others:
